The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is offering its Internship Programme for graduate students in 2024. This program is designed to provide valuable hands-on experience in a university setting, allowing interns to engage in various administrative, research, and academic activities. Position Purpose:

The UWC Internship Programme aims to support the university’s operational and strategic objectives while offering students practical experience in an academic environment. The program is intended to develop interns’ professional skills, enhance their understanding of higher education administration, and prepare them for future career opportunities in academia or related fields.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including data entry, document management, and scheduling of meetings and events.
  • Support research projects by collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and reviewing literature.
  • Contribute to academic and departmental activities, including organizing seminars, workshops, and other events.
  • Provide support in student services, including assisting with registration, advising, and student communications.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions and planning related to ongoing projects.
  • Engage in various training and development activities to gain a better understanding of university operations and educational practices.
Education:
  • Current students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in fields related to Education, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Research, or a related discipline.
  • Strong academic performance with a demonstrated interest in higher education and academic administration.

Experience:

  • No prior work experience is required.
  • Relevant experience through academic projects, internships, or volunteer work in administrative, educational, or research roles will be considered advantageous.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic understanding of research methodologies and academic practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning and contributing to tasks.
